FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 10, 2012

June 10th, 2012

Well, the dust has settled on our community's very first BarterTime Second Saturday gathering.

Event Coordinator, Mike Tummillo, speaks
with Traders at the first BarterTime
Second Saturday event June 9th.

Mike Tummillo, Event Coordinator, said, "I am VERY encouraged by the reaction of those who attended today's event. I believe everyone there was either encouraged to have been with like-minded people, or enlightened by the amount of stimulating information people were sharing today. Personally, I was impressed by some of the things people brought to barter with... whether it was chewing tobacco, bottled water from a well, canned goods, even wasp spray for self-defense use... we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful morning at Wits End Small Event Center under all those shady trees."

Tummillo said, "We learned a few things from today's event, too... a few things we'll adjust for the next gathering. I was encouraged by several in attendance to keep doing this."

Scott Roebuck, who operates Heavenly Branch Farm in Dublin with his wife, Tara, had this to say, "It's a wonderful concept... we are looking forward to long term participation as it grows. We will definitely help spread the word."

Tara added, "Something like this is long overdue in our area. We thoroughly enjoyed the people we met today and had great conversations about progressive ideas for our community. Personally, I am excited to watch it grow into it's full potential."

As a result of promotional eMail and "hits" received at the BarterTime Blog, Tummillo said he has heard from several people who expressed interest in having a similar event in their own communities. "BarterTime is for anyone, anywhere. Even Homeland Security is encouraging Americans to start connecting with a wider circle of like-minded folks so there's a network you can turn to and work with should some sort of disaster or disruption take place. The major upside to the growing interest in "Prepping" is that - because disasters are on the increase - it's easier to find stable, rational people who are taking steps to prepare for real possibilities. The wild-eyed, religious Doomsdayer is still out there, but there's definitely a growing number of sober-minded families who are pro-actively doing something to prepare for the worst, even while hoping for the best."

Next month's BarterTime Second Saturday will begin at 9AM July 14th, once again, at Wits End Small Event Center. Attendees are welcome to bring as many bartering items as they like as well as their own table and chairs. No money changes hands at this event and there is no vending, water, or electricity.
